SING THE NORTH is a family of choirs, based in Canada, that welcomes singers from around the world.
Led by founding Artistic Director and Conductor Kathryn Whitney since 2020, we offer singers the chance to perform high-quality Canadian and other choral works as part of a welcoming family of choristers.
Every year, choristers come from far and wide to sing in person at our week-long STN Summer Choral Festival, which takes place in the city of Victoria on beautiful Vancouver Island off the West Coast of Canada. Choral legend Howard Dyck returns in 2026 to lead our 100+ voice Festival Chorus in a major work with orchestra, with our Artistic Director Kathryn Whitney and colleagues leading our multiple chamber choirs. Festival dates: August 1-8, 2026.
Our two Recording Choirs - SING THE NORTH and STN Ice - rehearse online. In collaboration with our audiographer, Stephen Ross, we produce industry-standard audio and video recordings of both traditional and cutting-edge Canadian choral music and promote these to our global audience.
To encourage friendship and understanding of diverse cultures, composers, and lands, our Recording Choirs travel on the STN Virtual Choir Tour Bus to meet people living and working in the areas we are singing about. They also often attend live online sessions with our composers, offering rare insight into the inspiration behind the works we are singing.
The door is always open to our STN Fridays Virtual Kitchen Parties, where we gather online to sing-along with folk musicians from across Canada and around the world. Watch our website for the next season of kitchen parties, which will resume in 2026.

STN Season 6 - SING THE NORTH into the future
We are thrilled to be moving into our 6th Season of singing as a global family of singers.
Thank you to all singers who have raised their voices with us, whether in our annual in-person STN Summer Festival, at our STN Fridays Kitchen Parties, or on our recording projects with our virtual choirs SING THE NORTH and STN ICE!
For STN Season 6 we are:
- Running a full in-person Summer Choral Festival! Choral legend HOWARD DYCK returns to conduct our Festival Chorus, with visiting conductors, soloists, and a festival composer joining us in beautiful Victoria, BC. Festival dates are Aug 1-8. Registration opening in January.
- Premiering 8 new videos from SING THE NORTH and STN Ice - watch for our premiere Virtual Festival of Canadian Choral Music, which will take place in Spring 2026!
A Choral Society
After 5 years running under the umbrella of the business of our Artistic Director, Kathryn Whitney, SING THE NORTH is in the process of making the transition to a charitable choral society. If you would like to take part as an advisor or board member, please write to us via the contact page.
