Join us to sing one of the most stunning choral works written in recent years: There Was The One by award-winning Canadian-born American composer, Joy Decoursey-Porter.
There Was The One is a stunning choral work for SSAATTBB chorus that sets the medieval Wessobrun Prayer, in which a monk sits under candlelight, contemplating what existed before the moment of creation that made his own world. Decoursey-Porter combines English, German, Spanish, and Latin texts, invoking the universality of the questions posed by the monk across cultures, and uniting us all in our shared wonder at the mystery of life and of the world.
This project is jointly sung by our flagship choir SING THE NORTH and our chamber choir for contemporary music, STN Ice. All singers are welcome to join us without audition to raise their voices in this superb composition.
Hear There Was the One performed on the Cypress Choral Music website.
Project Dates: March 30-April 13. Recordings due May 15
